BUSOGA DIOCESE NEWS:
A TRIUMPHAL PALM SUNDAY
BY Rev. David Munobwa
The joy and excitement that comes with Palm Sunday can not be over stated! Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe, as always, celebrated the day in style. The high light of the day was the Jesus Triumphal match through the streets of Bugembe, led by the Bishop of Busoga Diocese and Dean of the Cathedral, Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul M.S. Naimanhye, flanked by his lieutenants, the Sub -Dean, Rev. Can. Dr. Joy Mukisa Isabirye, the Vicar, Rev. Canon Mathias and Mrs Betty Katiko and Curate, Rev. David and His wife Cissy Munobwa.
Traffic came to a standstill on the Jinja Malaba highway as Thousands of Christians matched in celebration of Jesus Triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The event was a precursor of Jesus’ death on the Cross and resurrection, which are foundations of the Christian faith.
Before and after the Jesus match, the Rt. Dr. Paul Naimanhye, with mama Lydia Florence Naimanhye in attendance, treated the congregation to a thrilling sermon titled, “Jesus’ Triumphant Entry into our situations.”
Using the analogue of the Donkey which was Retrieved at Jesus’ command, the Bishop prophesied upon three services of the filled to capacity Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe congregants that Jesus is going to “recapture, reclaim, rescue, recall, repair, redeem and save” them in this season.
The fiery Bishop’s sermon kept the congregation on the edge of their seats, with regular hallelujahs and amens as the word sunk to their hearts.
The day was crowned with a Dinner organised by Cathedral Parish Council members to congratulate the Bishop upon his achievement of a Honorary Doctorate of Divinity awarded by Zoe Life Theological College, USA. The dinner was hosted at Pearl on the Nile Hotel Jinja and was attended by representatives from the different units of the Cathedral family, i.e. Fathers Union, Mothers Union, Youths, Choirs, Christian Men, and Christian Women.
The Vicar of the Cathedral was the chairman organizing committee, deputized by Mrs Hellen Wataba, a recently retired Head teacher of Tororo girls and one of the Committed Christians at the Cathedral.
Earlier in the day, Mrs Wataba also led a team of Christian Women for a Prisons ministry at Bugembe Prisons. This is a new ministry started at the Cathedral which the Women will be leading, with Mrs Wataba at the helm.
The Palm Sunday ushers the Christian community to the Holy Week, which will be crowned on Easter Monday with the Bishop’s pastoral visit to the Kyabazinga of Busoga in His Palace, after Eater Sunday.
